Results & Methodology

What the training data shows

Every studio promises results. This page sets out the numbers we publish, what each one actually measures, who is counted in it and where it comes from — so you can judge them rather than take them on trust.

Unless stated otherwise, every figure below covers the five years of Hero's Journey operations to 2026, across all studios, and is drawn from our own training, booking and assessment records.

The numbers, defined

1.6M+

Workouts completed

What it measures
Individual training sessions completed and logged at a Hero's Journey studio.
Who is counted
Everyone who trains with us. We do not filter for regulars or long-term members — the first workout counts.
Source
Session records from the booking system and station tablets.
95%

Booked classes attended

What it measures
The share of booked class places that were actually attended, rather than cancelled or missed.
Who is counted
All class bookings in the booking records.
Source
Booking system records.
+25%

Typical strength gain

What it measures
The typical improvement in working weight on the chest press and leg press. These two machines are reported because they are the most consistently logged across every program.
Who is counted
Athletes with recorded strength sessions on those machines.
Source
Weights and reps recorded at the station tablet during each set.
7,500

Repeat body composition tests

What it measures
Athletes who completed more than one body composition test, allowing a first-to-follow-up comparison. A majority of that group gained muscle and lost body fat between the two.
Who is counted
Athletes with at least two Assessment Center body composition tests.
Source
Assessment Center test records.
4.95 / 5

Average class rating

What it measures
The mean score given by athletes rating a class immediately after it, across more than 340,000 individual ratings.
Who is counted
Every submitted class rating. Ratings are optional, so this reflects athletes who chose to respond.
Source
Post-class ratings in the member app.

Data points

What it measures
Individual recorded values — each set, rep, weight, heart rate reading, booking and assessment result — that the recommendation system is trained on.
Who is counted
All training activity across all studios.
Source
Station tablets, heart rate monitors, the booking system and the Assessment Center.

How to read these numbers

These are operating records, not a controlled trial. They describe what happened among people who chose to train at Hero's Journey and kept training — a group that is self-selected by definition. They are strong evidence that the format works for the people who use it, and weak evidence about anyone who would not have joined in the first place.

We publish the population behind each figure for that reason. A 95% attendance rate across all bookings means something different from a 95% rate among members who lasted a year, and the difference matters if you are deciding whether to join.

Body composition and strength figures compare an athlete against their own earlier results, not against other athletes. Individual outcomes vary with starting point, consistency and how closely the program is followed — and, as the attendance figure implies, showing up is the variable that moves results most.

Why we can measure any of this

Most gyms cannot publish numbers like these because they never collect them. Access-based gyms know when you badged in, not what you lifted. The measurement here is a by-product of how the training itself runs.

Every strength station has a tablet that already knows your history: it shows the exercises for the day, the weight you lifted last time, the reps you completed and what to load today. You confirm what you actually did, so the record is what happened rather than what was planned.

Every athlete trains in a heart rate monitor that reads every second and displays on the studio screen, so the coach can see who should push and who should ease off. And every two months the Assessment Center records body composition, VO2 max, strength benchmarks and endurance, which is what makes first-to-follow-up comparison possible at all.
